Practical writing for families and treasuries who maintain cryptocurrency reserves offline. Each article addresses a specific custody decision, material, or scheduling constraint we encounter during field visits.

12 March 2026 · Scheduling
Jeju families who hold offline cryptocurrency reserves often discover in January that a key signatory is overseas and cannot attend a vault visit. Autumn reviews — particularly in September and October — align with local bank vault hours before the winter holiday rush and before ferry schedules tighten.
Vault access windows
Jeju City bank branches reduce safe deposit access hours during late December. Scheduling field visits in October means practitioners can photograph seal conditions and update inventory ledgers while all signatories are present.

4 February 2026 · Materials
During home safe examinations in Hallim and Aewol, we regularly find paper seed envelopes with softened corners from humidity — even inside rated safes. Metal backup plates survive better but introduce labelling challenges when multiple signatories each hold partial records.
Paper envelopes
Affordable and familiar, paper backups fit attorney escrow workflows. They require desiccant packs replaced annually and explicit humidity notes in the custody map. We photograph envelope condition, not contents.

18 January 2026 · Recovery
A recovery rehearsal fails quietly when participants arrive without the same documentation version or when live seed material would be needed because test wallets were never prepared. This checklist reflects what practitioners request before a Jeju office drill.
One week before
- Confirm each signing authority has read the current custody map page for their role
- Gather blank or test hardware — never bring live devices already loaded with mainnet keys unless counsel approves
- List passphrase variants applied since initial setup; drills often surface forgotten secondary phrases from 2020–2022 setups
Day of session
- Arrive with tamper-evident bags still sealed if transporting test materials
- Expect timed steps: practitioners record how long each role takes without rushing seed entry
- Plan for a stop: if the drill would expose live phrases in an unsafe setting, we pause and reschedule with counsel
After the drill
- Receive a signed drill report listing corrections — mild gaps are normal on first rehearsal
- Update custody map pages before the next annual review; do not file the drill report without cross-referencing inventory ledgers
Who should attend
Every person who would touch hardware during a real recovery, plus one observer who normally only holds vault keys. Trustees may attend but cannot substitute for signatories.
